THE 50th anniversary of the Coronation revived golden memories for Margaret Jones.
Her mother, silk weaver Lily Charlson, wove the yards of material used in the Queen's special dress.
A proud Margaret, 62, of Edale Close, Atherton, said her mother, who died in 1990 and lived in Sanderson Street, Atherton, was thrilled to win the honour for herself and her company, Courtauld's, in a national competition.
Firms were invited to submit samples of their work for selection and Lily, who worked at Leigh's Bedford Mill, produced the chosen piece.
Royal supporter Margaret said: "My mother was always proud of the fact that she played such a big part in the Coronation, and kept a piece of gold silk thread from the material."
"She was a really good weaver, in fact she was good at anything she put her mind to."
"I remember everyone going round to my aunt's home. She had one of the first televisions in Atherton and it had a stand in front with a coloured screen on so we watched the Coronation -- in coloured stripes.
"It was a lovely day and one my family can't forget. I believe the dress is on display in London -- I would love to see it."
