THERE have been many responses to Mr James Cook's claim (Letters, May 21) that The Fashionable Winos and other bands promote drinking to teenagers.
Whether his accusations were accurate or not, what Mr Cook failed to mention is the positive effects that local bands have on teenagers.
The Fashionable Winos have played several gigs in Blackburn now and the majority of them have been intended to raise awareness of important issues for the local community.
They have taken part in Love Music, Hate Racism in association with the Anti-Nazi League, as well as an anti-war gig and one benefiting Marie Curie Cancer.
Mr Cook would have realised this if he had managed to look beyond the band's logo when he visited their website. He would also have known this if young up-and-coming bands got the support that they deserve from the local media.
So maybe it's about time that the Lancashire Evening Telegraph paid more attention to local bands, whether it be their good points or their bad points. I'm sure they would appreciate the publicity either way.
