A MAJOR day of demonstration by the Anti-Nazi League is set to go-ahead in Burnley later this month.
Organisers said it was being held in response to the results of the May elections, when six new BNP councillors gained seats in the town.
The demo will involve a march through the town centre on Saturday, June 28, as well as family attractions such as face painting and jugglers.
Similar demos will be held on the same day in Tipton, West Midlands, Broxbourne, Kent and Halifax, West Yorkshire, where the BNP also have councillors.
The Anti-Nazi League's National Organiser Julie Waterson, said: "We need to start making a concerted effort to challenge the growth of the BNP in towns like Burnley and this event is part of that.
"It is a response to the election results which showed that last year was no flash in the pan.
"We want as many people as possible to take part in the demonstration to show the strength of support there is against the BNP.
"Although the focus and message of the demonstration will be political, we also want to make it a family occasion and a fun day out."
A gig held in April at the Burnley Mechanics, Manchester Road, with Basement Jaxx, DJ Tim Westwood, hip hop band Heartless Crew and Punjabi Hit Squad was a major success.
It was one of a series of events aimed at undermining the influence of the BNP in the run-up to the local elections on May 1.
