ALES from around the world could soon be available in Burnley if plans to get a specialist beer shop off the ground get the go-ahead later this month.
Ian Fletcher, of Todmorden Road, has put forward plans to Burnley Council to change a former artist's studio in Victoria Road, near to the junction with Briercliffe Road, into a shop selling real ales and beers from around the world.
Ian, who was made redundant as a computer programmer at Roseby's, Nelson, last October, and has not worked since, is hoping councillors will give the plans the thumbs up.
After considering the options and carrying out market research, Ian decided there was a niche in the market for the shop.
He is planning to put his life savings into the business venture to give his family a stable income.
Everything from specialist Australian lagers to German real ales could be on offer.
Ian, who has a teenage son, said: "I am really hoping that it gets approval but even if it does that won't be the end. I will have to go on a course which will give me a licence to sell alcohol."
The shop is located in the heart of the Briercliffe Road shopping area which will allow customers easy access.
Ian added: "The nearest specialist beer shop is in Preston as far as I am aware, so I am hoping I will get customers from all over, which will also help the local economy."
Planners will discuss the application at the next Development Control meeting on June 26.
