LANCASHIRE'S head of police has repeated his commitment to the new 'beat managers' who are taking policing to the heart of the community.
Chief Constable Paul Stephenson said that by the end of the year there will be 250 officers in community beat manager roles supported by 100 community support officers.
"These managers are our commitment to providing local police officers who are based in the community, are visible to the public and are active in tackling crime, anti-social behaviour and safety issues," said Mr Stephenson.
"They will be in post for a minimum of two years so that they can build up and develop relationships and initiate long-term solutions to problems.
"I hope communities will see them as a resource with the skills, knowledge and networks to bring problem-solving to the heart of their communities."
Lancashire constabulary is currently finalising the recruitment of 80 additional community beat managers.
