Holy Souls Primary School is going to the Lancashire Youth Games after a dramatic last minute win against Ashleigh.
The final of the Blackburn and Darwen Tag Rugby Festival appeared to be going into extra time until Jake Ansbro weaved his way through Ashleigh's defence to clinch victory.
The teams were locked at 6-6 going in to the final minute before Ansbro's piece of magic booked Holy Souls a place in the Lancashire Youth Games in Lancaster later this month.
It was a nail-biting climax to a tournament that produced top class rugby throughout the day. It was also the culmination of a year-long training programme at primary schools in Blackburn and Darwen.
Blackburn with Darwen Council's sport development office, in conjunction with Blackburn Rugby Club, held a series of taster sessions to give youngsters a taste of Tag Rugby.
A total of nine schools took part in the event who were split in to two pools.
Holy Souls finished as runners-up behind Holy Trinity in Pool A although both schools finished on the same points.
But Holy Trinity topped the table on account of scoring more tries -- rattling up 19 in a 5-5 draw against Holy Souls before victories against St Cuthberts (8-2) and Lammack (6-3).
Holy Souls booked their place in the semi finals after beating Lammack 6-3 and St Cuthberts 6-1.
In the last four, Holy Souls and Holy Trinity were joined by Ashleigh and Audley who had progressed from Pool B.
Audley topped the Pool with a 100 per cent record with victories against Wensley Fold (4-3), Ashleigh (4-3), Sacred Heart (4-2) and Roe Lee (5-3).
Ashleigh scraped in to second place with two wins, a draw and a defeat. Ashleigh beat Sacred Heart (2--0) and Wensley Fold (5-3), lost to Audley and were held to a 3-3 draw by Roe Lee.
However, it was Ashleigh who were the first side to book their place in the final after a narrow 5-4 victory against Holy Trinity.
The second semi final proved to be just as tense with Holy Souls ending Audley's unbeaten record with a 6-5 win.
The final produced the best match of the day with the lead changing hands throughout the match until Ansbro's late intervention sealed Ashleigh's fate. Holy Souls' winning team was captained by Ryan Hyslop and included Jack Ansbro, Roberto Bonaminio, Paul Collinge, Dominic Cook, Andrew Dewhurst, Dale Harris, Grace Norris, Emily McGregor and Holly Smith.
