ONCE again, the self-styled 'liberator of Darwen,' Roy Davies, persists in perpetuating the myth that the town has been neglected by councillors (Letters, May 22).
Yet again, he trots out the millions spent in Blackburn. But, yet again, he fails to mention the millions spent in Darwen!
Recent examples include:
£1.4 million Heritage Grant for the restoration of India Mill and chimney -- 600 new jobs created at the mill.
£2.6 million Sure Start programme and Family Centre off Olive Lane (just around the corner from where Mr Davies lives!)
£1 million Health and Social Services Resource Centre off Duckworth Street.
£1.5 million new school at Holy Trinity.
£3.5 million capital improvements to Darwen's schools.
£1 million Education Action Zone to improve standards in Darwen's schools.
£2 million for the Eccleshill Link road.
State-of-the-art £11 million new health centre to commence soon at the rear of the leisure centre.
These recent examples prove councillors will do all in their power to attract funding to Blackburn and Darwen in order to improve people's lives.
Why can Mr Davies see the investments taking place in Blackburn, but not those in Darwen?.
COUN DAVE SMITH (Sunnyhurst Ward), Woodbank Avenue, Darwen.
