FIREFIGHTERS swapped pumps for pedal power on Tuesday in their bid to raise £2,000 to help a cancer victim.
Eight members of Bury fire station's Green Watch are starting an arduous 1,000km trek though the Andalucian mountains in southern Spain.
The seven-day challenge will see the team tackle blazing temperatures as they wind their way up mountain roads. The aim of the event is to raise much-needed funds for Dana Carroll.
In October, the seven-year-old was diagnosed with osteogenic sarcoma. The rare form of bone cancer spread, forcing doctors to amputate an arm.
Campaigners are now trying to raise enough money to send Dana, of Pilling Street, Bury, on a dream holiday to EuroDisney and pay for a prosthetic limb.
The firefighters taking part in the latest fund-raiser are Dave Charlesworth, Roger Gubbins, Mark Thomas, Gary Thistlethwaite, Keith Hadley, Dave Lucas, Steve Marsden and Steve Swift.
Dave Charlesworth said: "The lads have paid for the event themselves so every penny we raise will go to help Dana.
"We have already received a lot of sponsorship from individuals and companies and we are confident we will raise more than £2,000."
