BURNLEY MP Peter Pike has been appointed an executive member of the new All Party Parliamentary British Olympics Committee.
He has been asked to help ensure the bid for the 2012 games is clearly a British bid rather than a regional or London bid after being appointed at the inaugural meeting of the group this week.
Mr Pike said: "An Olympic Games in London in 2012 will be good for the whole of the UK.
"The Olympics would encourage more people to take an active part in sports at school and in their leisure time and promote the abilities of British athletes - as we saw with the Commonwealth Games last year.
"The additional revenue, tourism, and regeneration opportunities that having the event would present would benefit the whole of the UK. I fully support the bid and hope the Games come to London."
