BURY could be set for a double cash boost after it emerged that Blackpool have been linked with striker Jon Newby and Paddy Kenny is interesting Leeds United writes Steve Bott

Blackpool manager Steve McMahon has been tracking Newby for some time and he is currently stalling on signing a new contract.

However, if Newby did leave, a major chunk of any fee would be owed to Liverpool after a sell-on clause was inserted by the Anfield club following his transfer to the Shakers.

Meanwhile, former Shakers' assistant manager Kevin Blackwell's move to Premiership big boys Leeds United could bring a much-needed cash boost to hard-up Bury.

For there is speculation that Blackwell might recommend his new boss Peter Reid to make a move for Sheffield United goalkeeper Paddy Kenny if Leeds offload their current No. 1, Paul Robinson, who at one time was reckoned to be in line for a move to Manchester United.

If Kenny does move on, Bury will be due around 25 per cent of the fee the Blades receive for the former Shakers' keeper -- and that will be more than welcome news for manager Andy Preece and the beleagured Bury board.

Kenny, just as he was at Gigg Lane, is a big favourite at Bramall Lane and has won many admirers with his displays after quickly making the first team goalkeeper's spot his own following his move to join former Bury boss Neil Warnock.

Bramall Lane has become something of an enclave for former Bury FC personnel as former Shakers chairman Terry Robinson is also on board at United as their football executive.

The big transfer target for other clubs sniffing around Bramall Lane is former Manchester City midfielder Michael Brown, but the Shakers will be hoping that Kenny also moves on so that their impoverished bank balance can receive a boost.

Bury co-chairman Fred Mason said he had also heard that Kenny had been linked with Birmingham City and he declared: "It would be brilliant if we did get some cash should Paddy move. He has had a great season with Sheffield United.

"As for Kevin, wherever he has gone he has had success. He's got a good record and he has the badges to go with it."
