PENDLE people are being urged to take more care when enjoying a traditional summer barbecue as part of National Food Safety Week.
The council's environmental health service is aiming to get key safety messages to residents by making advisory leaflets giving clear, easily-followed advice available at butchers shops in the borough.
Copies are also available free of charge from Pendle Council on 01282 661661.
Stuart Arnott, environmental health manager, said: "Public awareness on food poisoning such as E.coli 0157 is increasing but there is no room for complacency.
"Barbecues are an enjoyable family activity -- by following the simple guidance consumers can steer clear of food poisoning. We need to make sure that the enjoyment is not taken out of the occasion."
Members of the public can visit the council's website at www.pendle.gov.uk for more information on food safety issues and the wide range of help and advice available from the council's environmental health service.
