LEIGH MP Andy Burnham is being tipped for a top Government job after just two years in Parliament.
And if the Labour member, brought up in Culcheth and now settled in Golborne, secures a ministerial position as part of Prime Minister Tony Blair's expected Cabinet reshuffle, it will highlight his meteoric rise.
Mr Burnham left his post as a Government adviser at Labour's Millbank headquarters to stand as Leigh's Labour candidate when Lawrence Cunliffe chose to stand-down at the last General Election.
Mr Burnham's name was mentioned in national media speculation surrounding an expected Cabinet reshuffle on Thursday.
But on Tuesday the modest 33-year-old admitted it was "nice to be mentioned" and said "I'm happy being MP for Leigh". He said he was not expecting any promotion but added "If there is, I think it would be a junior ministerial job".
