LEIGH MP Andy Burnham is helping to fight the war on poverty.
He is hosting a lunch in Leigh Town Hall on Friday for Oxfam North West Campaigns at which he will be joined by Nafi Chinery, a community worker in Ghana, and charity workers.
They will talk to an audience of Leigh people, councillors and activists about the problems facing people in poor countries, like Ghana from the effects of unfair international trade rules.
Mr Burnham said: "Improving trade rules means giving countries like Ghana a fair chance to sell products on international markets. Tariff barriers faced by these countries often prevent farming families from making a living wage."
Oxfam campaigns officer, Katy McDermott, said: "There are fewer than 100 days before the World Trade Organisation meet in Mexico to discuss ways to improve the effects of trade on developing countries. I am delighted that Andy is supportive of Oxfam's aims to make trade fair."
