CHILD'S play is an important investment for the future and cash is being ploughed into transforming Atherton for future generations.
After meeting the newly-formed Wigan Cultural Trust, the town's councillors welcomed a new strategy for play.
Councillor Sue Loudon said: "Young people and children learn a great deal through play. They learn to share, use their imagination, self reliance and in some respect, health and safety of, themselves and, their friends.
"In Atherton we have tried to look at the area, as a whole, and plan the future of play in our parks and open spaces. Many areas need upgrading or improving and with money gained through planning agreements, the local authority will be able to invest substantial amounts of money into the Atherton area.
"Along with money gained through Atherton Building Communities within a few years we could have a
transformed Atherton, with enhanced play areas -- a plan for play for future generations."
