A WARTIME romance blossomed into 60 years of successful marriage for a Blackburn couple.
Luke and Edna Hunter, above, will spend today celebrating their diamond wedding anniversary at their Shear Brow home with their three children, nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Love blossomed between the pair when Luke, 86, wrote to Edna, 83, when he was serving in France and Germany as a corporal in the Royal Fusiliers.
They had met previously as they both worked in St James' Road - Edna as a hairdresser and Luke in a greengrocer's.
The pair tied the knot at St Theresa's Church, Accrington Road in 1943 and after the war Luke spent 31 years working at Northrop while Edna brought up their son Maurice and daughters Maureen and Margaret.
Edna said: "The secret of a successful marriage is never to fall out about money and always to make sure you sort things out between you."
