I WAS in Market Street, Leigh, on Monday, when an injured pigeon obviously carrying a broken, trailing wing decided to walk across the road.

I kept my fingers crossed that the poor thing would make it, but alas three quarters of the way to its destination it was splattered by a motorist who didn't even make an effort to slow down or avoid it.

Consolation is that it the poor thing is probably better off in the great coop in the sky rather than shuffling about grounded and at the mercy of some cruel folk who feel the birds are nothing but vermin on legs.
