A LOCAL man has made a grand contribution to funding the Macmillan Windmill Appeal.
Ken Jackson has raised more than £1,000 for the Macmillan Windmill Appeal by giving his talk 'They don't make 'em like that any more.'
His talk, with keyboard accompaniment, tells the story of old film stars and music hall artistes, and instead of charging a fee, asks for donations to the appeal.
Ken has given more than 60 talks since he started in June 2000 and has now reached the fund-raising target he set himself in memory of his wife, Dot, who died of lung cancer seven years ago.
Appeal manager, Karen Dyke, said: "Ken is a true gentleman. In an unusual and highly entertaining way he has brought to life stories of old movie stars, joining the past to the present for the future care of people living with cancer. The Macmillan Appeal thanks Ken and everyone who supported him for this substantial contribution."
