A YOUNG man from Accrington who tried to smuggle drugs into a jail has himself been sent to prison.
Joseph Aspin was caught out as staff at Wymott prison, near Leyland, monitored a video of visitors arriving, Preston Crown was told.
He was seen to place a package into a cup. Checks led to the discovery of 3.7g of cannabis resin.
Aspin, 20, of Hawksworth Road, Accrington, pleaded guilty to a charge of possession of a Class B drug with intent to supply. He was given four months prison.
Richard Hunt, defending, said Aspin had not really known what he was getting into at the time.
Judge Pamela Badley told Aspin that no prison visitor could fail to notice all the signs about, warning against attempts to bring drugs into prison.
"Drugs in prison are an evil", she said.
