A MAN has admitted assaulting his own mother with a hammer.
Rene Kieran Tristan Shepherd, 28, of Lindisfarne Avenue, Blackburn, pleaded guilty at Preston Crown Court to causing his mum, Patricia, grievous bodily harm, during an incident on February 28 this year.
Detective Inspector Jim Elston, who investigated the case, said Shepherd had attacked his mother in the bathroom of their house.
He said: "He began an indiscriminate attack on her with the hammer.
"She suffered injuries to the head plus defensive injuries.
"He launched a frenzied attack on his mother before she took the hammer off him then fled the house.
"This is a tragic incident and hopefully he will get treatment and support. This has been an extremely trying ordeal for his family who have supported him throughout the process."
The matter was adjourned until Friday, June 27, when Shepherd will be sentenced.
