THE government is about to foist genetically-modified food on us as a direct result of pressure from the US which is dissatisfied that Europe's moratorium on GM foods means that American biotech companies do not have a market over here.
Britain once again stands shoulder to shoulder with the US and on the other side of the fence from our European counterparts on this issue. But a recent Mori Poll concluded that 56 per cent of Britons are opposed to eating GM food, and Europe is developing tough labelling laws so consumers are able to choose Gree food.
Important health research still needs to be done and environmental impact assessments need to be fully researched before any commercial planting of GM crops in this country is given the go-ahead.
This may be your last chance to demand a Gree Britain. Make your voice heard by writing to the leader of the County Council, Hazel Harding, at County Hall, Preston, urging her to adopt a Gree policy for the goods and services the LCC provides, such as school meals, and ensure that Lancashire remains free from growing GM crops or planting GM seeds.
