TWO Burnley students who had just 24 hours to get as far away from Britain as possible managed to travel 300 miles.

Edward Milne, and Chris Visser both 20, beat four other teams who set off from Nottingham on Monday.

The modern-day Phileas Fogg and Passepartout, were raising money for Oxfam's Don't Forget Africa Campaign.

The dynamic duo had one day to get as far away from the Midlands town using only limited means. They were aiming to get to Morocco in Northern Africa, but because of security restrictions onboard aircrafts the pair failed to make it off land.

Instead Edward, of Southern Avenue, and a former Habergham pupil, and Chris, of Easedale Close, dressed in Blues Brother fancy dress and made it to South Wales.

He said: "We set off at six in the morning on Monday from Nottingham, we went to East Midland Airport to ask for a flight but because we hadn't arranged it earlier they were unable to help us. People were being helpful all the way we got free food and free transport.

"We went up to Derby and across to Bristol before ending up in South Wales. We had our picture taken outside Oakwood leisure complex and sent a text to say where we were."

The pair managed to beat the other teams who only made it as far as Brighton and Heathrow.

They haven't given up hope of making it to Morocco and are already planning their next trip.

Edward added: "We're going to take more time to prepare for the next one. We're determined to make it to Morocco."
