A FOUR-week Spring into Action campaign, which was organised by Lancashire County Commercial Services to encourage secondary school pupils to order a healthy school lunch, has proved a big success.
Now health experts are calling on East Lancashire parents to follow the trend and encourage children to eat well at home, too.
In the scheme, pupils received prize draw tokens each time they ordered a meal, but were given more chances to win if they chose a healthy option.
Many of the young people from the 30 schools which took part abandoned chips and cakes in favour of healthy pasta, jacket potatoes and fresh fruit.
Every school was presented with a prize for the winning pupil, including flying lessons in a light aircraft, museum passes and vouchers.
Year eight pupil, Laura Southwell, scooped first prize at Ivy Bank High School in Burnley and is now looking forward to her visit to an outdoor pursuit centre.
A Lancashire County Commercial Services spokesman said: "As part of our continued drive to encourage young people to eat healthily, the Spring into Action campaign was a great success.
"We were pleased that so many of the pupils wanted to eat healthy food and hope the winners enjoy their prizes!"
