A 47-year-old man left critically injured after his car collided head-on with another vehicle on a motorway was still fighting for his life in hospital today.
The Radcliffe man's egistered Volkswagen Passat collided with the BMW driven by a 29-year-old man from Bury in the early hours of Saturday at the Ramsbottom junction of the M66. Police said the Passat entered a motorway sliproad in the wrong direction before driving a short distance down the motorway in the face of oncoming traffic.
The BMW driver died at the scene after being cut free by fire crews. He had not been identified today. Police said the Passat driver suffered serious injuries and was in a critical condition today in Bury General Hospital.
