STEPHEN Smith was elected chairman and other officers were appointed at the inaugural meeting of the Cliviger Challenge Steering group last week.

Tammy Smith, from the Countryside Agency, outlined her role with the organisation and explained the assistance available with application for a Parish Grant. For a grant to be awarded the Countryside Agency requires not less than a 7 per cent return of questionnaires which will be distributed to all households in the parish.

It is hoped the response in the area will be considerably higher than that.

NEXT Saturday members of the Steering Group and other interested parties will visit Chipping to see the community centre there and gain valuable insight into the process of establishing such a facility.

A GRAND total of £340 was raised at the recent auction held in Church House. The money will go to support St John's Church.

A new central heating boiler has been installed, but this has been done by means of a loan.

The church now needs as much support as possible from parishioners to raise funds to repay this amount.

MEMBERS of Cliviger Parish Council visited Shanks Deerplay Landfill site last week to see the efforts being made by the company to contain the materials put into the site.

The company has spent a large amount of money on this project to protect the surrounding area, and the parish councillors were very impressed with what they have done.
