THERE were some familiar faces among the winners in this year's Farleys Fun Fives with Monty Beaumont leading his team to glory for the second year running.

Monty was the manager of the Ewood Arms team that won the senior section of the event last year -- and he was the man behind Micromatic A's success this time around.

And it was a team that was used to success as Denis Hill, Matt Donaldson and Gary Thomas were all a part of that winning Ewood team 12 months ago.

Micromatic conceded just one goal and scored 11 on their relentless march to success -- and completed their task with a 1-0 win against Nassfiah Takeaway in the final.

The team also included Mick Roberts, Daz Frith, Matt Leathert and Elmo Bellusci. Accoutrenauts were out of this world in the Boys Under 11s category as they captured the spirit of the competition -- and the silverware!

Accoutrenauts, from Blackburn club Accoutre, were the biggest scorers of the day, rattling in 29 without reply in their six games -- including the 3-0 win against Knuzden Youth's Little Piglets 'A' in the final.

The Boys Under 13s winners also came from the Accoutre stable with Iron Brew beating Rishton United's The Real Sumshadys in the final.

It proved to be the perfect revenge mission from Iron Brew who were beaten 2-0 by Sumshadys in their first group match of the day. But Iron Brew bounced back to win their next four group games to move in to the knockout stages.

Victories over Locomotiv Withnell and club-mates Breezers set up a re-match with The Real Sumshadys which they won 4-0.

The event also included a Girls Under 12s section with 10 teams from East Lancashire and the surrounding area taking part.

And it was teams from all four corners who reached the semi finals to underline the growing strength of girls football. The first semi final paired Bolton Wanderers 'A' and Hazi Girlies from Haslingden Juniors with the Wanderers winning in a penalty shoot-out.

And it took spot kicks to separate Clitheroe Wolves and Darwen FC's Scouse Power who were locked at 1-1 at the end of normal time.

It was Scouse Power who won through and then went on to beat Bolton 2-1 in the final.

And for the first time, the event included a Ladies Section which will become a permanent fixture in future events.

The inaugural winners were the Formidable Bungles 'A' who beat Hindles Hornets 'B' 2-0 in the final.

The annual competition was again organised by Blackburn with Darwen Council's festival and events office with trophies presented by PFA chief executive Gordon Taylor.
