THE headline on your report (LET, June 4) about the £2.7million grant to Corporation park in Blackburn was misleading.
The lottery grant has not been given to 'tackle vandal damage.'
Any damage in the park is repaired out of Blackburn with Darwen Council's budget.
Also, the park has benefited recently from community policing, resulting in the reduction of levels of senseless vandalism.
As the thousands of residents who visit it will testify, Corporation Park is still very beautiful. The grant will be used to restore many areas that are suffering from 150 years of use and also to make improvements.
May I suggest that the time has come to stop reporting on the work of a few 'wreckers' and concentrate on the activities that take place in the park and are enjoyed by many.
This summer there will be qualified play workers in the park every afternoon during the holiday period to offer support for young children and parents and carers with organised play.
The Mela will be held on July 5 and 6 and Arts in the Park on July 12 and 13.
Corporation Park Supporters' Group will hold its annual meeting in Leamington Road Baptist Church at 7pm on June 23. Everyone is welcome to come and hear about he future of Corporation Park.
PAM SIMON, Chairman, Corporation Park Supporters' Group.
