BRIAN FLYNN is urging Brad Maylett to get his career back on track after snapping up the frustrated winger on a free transfer from Burnley.
Swansea boss Flynn swooped for Maylett last night following his impressive loan spell at the Vetch Field at the tail end of last season.
Maylett, who made just a handful of starts for the Clarets, surpassed that meagre total in one month by playing six games for the Welsh outfit to help them retain their Football League status by just one point.
And former Turf Moor midfielder Flynn has called on the 22-year-old to show more of that battling spirit as he plans to revive the Swans.
Flynn, who will officially sign Maylett on a two-year-deal today, said: "I'm very pleased Brad has come back down here and I think he will do well for us.
"Obviously it is an opportunity to play league football and he hasn't had too much chance to do that at Burnley.
"In many ways, this is a fresh start for him and a chance to show people what he is capable of.
"He has always been one of my top targets of the summer because he did very well when he joined us on loan at such a crucial time last season.
"If he can show the form I know he is capable of, I'm confident he will be a big hit with the fans."
Clarets' boss Stan Ternent interrupted his own search for new signings to confirm: "We have allowed Brad to go to Swansea. The deal is all agreed and he will sign for them today."
Manchester-born Maylett, who had one year left on his current Burnley deal, has struggled to break through into the first team since breaking through the youth ranks - and 45 of his 50 appearances came from the bench.
His opportunities on the right wing were seriously limited by the automatic selection of wing wizard Glen Little - and Maylett's subsequent inclusion in the starting 11 for the humiliating 7-2 defeat to Sheffield Wednesday on the final day of last season was only his third league start.
Maylett's departure hastens the need for new faces at Turf Moor, with Ternent now having just 13 professionals left at his disposal.
