LEIGH Centurions will not be exchanging young Aussie Pat Weisner for Tommy Martyn.
Hilton Park bosses are determined to press ahead to sign Martyn but not if it means losing half-back Weisner as part of the deal.
Executive director Derek Beaumont said. "Pat Weisner is going nowhere. He is a big part of our plans for the future and we would love to see Martyn playing alongside him.
"We are trying to build a team for Super League, not dismantle what we've already got."
Mr Beaumont has confirmed that Leigh have held talks with Martyn but any deal will have to wait while he is still contracted to St Helens.
Martyn, currently out with a broken arm until next month, has been told that Saints will not retain him for 2004 but the Centurions can only pursue their interest if the Irish international gets an early release from his Knowsley Road commitments.
"If he gets an early release, we could be in business," added Mr Beaumont.
Leigh are also in the market for a strong-running second row/centre to top up their squad for the final stages of the season and they are being linked with a possible move for another Saints star, Tim Jonkers, who has also been told he can leave the champions.
