THOUSANDS of young people and hundreds of volunteer managers, coaches and event organisers are preparing for the county's largest youth sport event.
The Lancashire Youth Games 2003 The Games, on Saturday, June 28, from10am - 6pm at Salt Ayre Leisure Centre, Lancaster, form part of the Lancashire Sport's sporting calendar and will bring together more than 400 volunteers, sports coaches and officials and over 1,500 young people to compete in athletics, rugby union, girls football, swimming, cricket, rugby league, hockey, basketball and boccia.
Teams from 14 boroughs across Lancashire will descend on Lancaster for the multi-sports event, which will include individual and integrated events for young athletes.
Richard Hammond, Sports Development Manager for Lancaster City Council, said: "The Lancashire Youth Games is part of wider long-term development plan designed to get more young people playing, staying and progressing in sport, while at the same time increase the number and quality of coaches and volunteers.
"For many young people the Youth Games will be their first county competitive opportunity and although I am sure for some, winning will be the aim of the day, the greater emphasis is on fun and young people coming together to celebrate sport."
