A WORLD record 52 Rugby League mascots will mark a major moment for Leigh Education Action Zone.
The Zone, which ends it mission on December 31, is marking its achievements through the last five years with a series of events under the global banner of Celebrating Success.
And on June 29 Leigh EAZ is sponsoring the Leigh Centurions v Hull KR National League One match at Hilton Park - boosted by a bumper crowd of fans from all 26 schools within the Zone.
Two youngsters from each school will form a guard of honour for the players and have been designated official match mascots. "That will be a record for a Rugby League match anywhere in the world," said Centurions coach Paul Terzis.
Leigh EAZ project director Alan Dutton, a lifelong Leigh fan, is thrilled at the prospect of the joining of hands between the Zone and the Centurions.
"The club have been our committed partners from the outset and this is our very public way of showing our appreciation," he said.
The 52 youngsters, each wearing a shirt specially designed for the occasion, will be responsible for selecting the official Player of the Match.
Two 11-year-old youngsters from Higher Folds Primary -- Christopher Clementson and Steven Keegan - will also act as official match reporters. They will be assisted in writing their report by Leigh EAZ press officer David Hodgkinson, a former editor of the Rugby Leaguer and former journalist with the Daily Star and Leigh Journal.
