FIREFIGHTERS were called to attend to a chemical leak at a waste management area in Lower Green, Astley at 8.25 am on Tuesday morning.
A forklift truck at the Virivor Waste Management Company had accidently pierced a barrel containing hydrogen peroxide -- which was reacting with the soil.
Firefighters had to use chemical protection suits, and it took one-and-a half hours to make the area safe.
No-one was injured.
