DO our councillors really know what is going on in Blackburn and Darwen?
Councillor Mohammed Khan states (LET, June 4) that there has been a 60 per cent increase in fly-tipping since the changes to the rules of disposing of commercial waste. But in the June issue of the council's newspaper, The Shuttle, it was stated that there had been no significant increase in the complaints about fly-tipping, and that, in fact, there had been a decrease. Possibly the interpretation of 'complaints' needs clarification.
Also The Shuttle indicated that the changes came about in November last year, has somebody only just got round to notifying Councillor Khan?
As far as I am aware, there has always been a charge for the disposal of commercial waste in Blackburn and I am unable to locate any recent change to the actual law relating to such waste, perhaps some council official could supply the relevant details. I am sure that there is a good explanation for the apparent confusion about the facts.
