A DRINK driver who caused a three-car pile-up on a busy by-pass while telling his pet parrot to shut up in the backseat has been banned from the road for three years.
David Ormiston, 46, was more than four times over the driving limit when his Vauxhall Astra smashed into the car in front on Preston New Road near Clifton on Tuesday, April 7.
The impact of the collision forced the car to shunt into another car close to the junction of Blackpool New Road leaving three people, including himself, needing hospital treatment.
During a hearing at Blackpool Magistrates the father-of-two, of Clive Road in Penwortham, admitted driving carelessly and driving with excess alcohol.
He told how he had had taken his eyes off the road to quieten his cockatiel which he had bought that day when the accident happened.
Ormiston, a driver, was given a 12 month rehabilitation order, fined £160 and may lose his job after losing his licence for three years.
