DESPITE another blow to Blackpool's casino dream, a legendary American millionaire has been tipped to give the resort's gambling hopes the trump card.
Charismatic tycoon, Donald Trump, has been linked with a move into the British gaming industry, through a development in Leicester Square, a Las Vegas style strip east of London and the resort.
He told a national newspaper at the weekend: "We have been approached and, yes, I'm interested. I love Britain. It's a special place.
"I would want something big and very glamorous. I'd be surprised if I didn't do anything in England. Maybe some kind of a combination -- a hotel with a casino perhaps."
National newspapers at the weekend also linked Trevor Hemming, the Lancashire millionaire behind Leisure Parcs, with a potential bid for casino operator, London Clubs International.
Meanwhile, the Government has confirmed the long-rumoured delay to a major shake-up of gambling laws.
The bill will not now become law until 2005 at the earliest after the Department of Culture, Media and Sport admitted that it would not become part of this year's Queens Speech.
