I HAVE read with interest the recent comments regarding the road-calming measures on the main road going through Tockholes village.
Most came from people not living in the vicinity.
Meetings were held at the Visitors' Centre and the Village Hall about the speeding problems. Measures already in place at other sites in surrounding areas were visited as well as looking at points in the village were vehicles exceeded the speed limit.
Police, councillors and the relevant road department from Blackburn with Darwen Council were all involved. Residents were kept informed of progress for almost two years, during which a number of accidents occurred with vehicles overturning, hitting walls and other cars, my own damaged by a speeding car (which did not stop).
From entering Tockholes to going past the Royal Hotel, the road on many occasions is like a race track. Children going to the village school on foot accompanied with a parent should now be safer.
Having lived in Tockholes, I feel sure that the work carried out was for the best reasons. If you travel through and do so at the relevant speeds, you will have no problem at all.
