A MENTAL health nurse has been struck off for committing an indecent act at an old people's home.
The Nursing & Midwifery Council's (NMC) professional conduct committee heard that Paul Statham, 62, from Todmorden, was found with an elderly female resident in a room at Hollinbrook House nursing home, Church Street, Littleborough.
Bill Leason, for the NMC, told the central London hearing that on January 15, 2002, Mr Statham admitted outraging public decency. He was sentenced to a community punishment order for 80 hours.
Mr Statham was not at the NMC hearing but in a letter wrote to the NMC, which was read to the hearing by committee chairman Bronya Webster stated: "I feel I would be subjecting myself to a stressful ordeal. The whole episode has had an effect on me and I don't think it's worth it." He did, however, admit the allegation.
The committee formally found the facts proved and ruled they amounted to misconduct.Committee chairman Bronya Webster said his conviction represented "a serious breach of conduct and removal from the register is the only appropriate sanction."
