A GP with a sympathetic ear who does that bit extra to make sure his patients are well cared for has been highlighted in our Pride of East Lancashire Awards.
Dr Chris Dalton, a GP at Darwen Health Centre, has been nominated by one of his patients for the Outstanding Vocational Worker category.
David Kimberley, 26, has been a patient of Dr Dalton for 12 years and says during that time the care he has received has been outstanding.
David, of Duddon Avenue, Darwen, said: "He doesn't rush and listens to what I have to say and he more than answers any questions you might have."
Dr Dalton has impressed David with his willingness to go that extra mile on his behalf whether it's a home visit or sorting out a hospital appointment.
David said: "If you need to see anyone at the hospital, he gets you an appointment as soon as he can and is persistent if needs be. On a home visit once, his concern shone through. He sat with me for 40 minutes even though he had other visits to attend that day.
"And when I have needed very expensive treatment, he has always given me the prescriptions needed, even when the people at the hospital told me it was doubtful I would get it because of the expense."
David said he knew of dozens of relatives and friends who also think Dr Dalton is marvellous. But modest Dr Dalton says he hasn't done anymore than any other worker in the NHS and the nomination should go to all of the service's hard-working staff.
The Outstanding Vocational Worker award recognises the men and women in East Lancashire who excel in their workplace. Sponsored by Fraser Eagle, it gives you the chance to nominate a colleague, relative, friend, or even yourself.
Nominations could include health workers, members of the emergency services, men and women who serve in the armed forces, people who work in the community - anyone who works extra hard to benefit others.
The award winner will receive a £2,000 holiday and £1,000 cash, presented at a glittering awards night at King George's Hall, Blackburn on November 22. The winner and two runners-up will also receive trophies.
Nominations for all 11 Pride of East Lancashire awards must be received by September 30.
