TWO tremendous all-round performances lit up Saturday's Lancashire League programme, as Gyandera Pandey and Jason Arnberger destroyed their opponents with bat and ball.
TODMORDEN pro Pandey took all nine ACCRINGTON wickets for 74 runs, the league's best bowling figures of the season, then added an unbeaten 80 to steer his side past their rain-reduced target.
Aussie Arnberger inspired RAMSBOTTOM to victory at BURNLEY, where he took 7-71 as the home side were all out for 189, then smashed 103 not out off 121 balls in the run chase.
Arnberger was given strong support by Mark Price, who took the other three Burnley wickets, then came in when Ramsbottom were in trouble with six wickets down to hit 27 not out and assist the pro in reaching the winning total.
Another pro, Pierre Joubert, was also in good form, making 86 in Burnley's innings.
A further remarkable statistic in the Todmorden game was the bowling figures of Ibra Ali, who also bowled an unbroken 25-over spell like Pandey, and had the same number of maidens and runs conceded, yet didn't take a wicket in the 153-9 Accrington total.
Pandey, meanwhile, hit eight fours and two sixes as he scored 80 in 93 balls.
At the top of the league, professional Joe Scuderi was a match-winner yet again for NELSON as he inspired a six wicket home success over ENFIELD, which enabled the Seedhill side to inherit top spot from their opponents.
The visitors batted first and were skittled out for a desperate 106 as the Nelson attack gained victims cheaply.
None more so than former Lancashire player Scuderi, who ended with three wickets at a meagre cost of just six runs, and Martin Heap gained the same number of victims surrendering just 26 runs.
The chase was not a difficult one as Scuderi protected his wicket, top scoring with an unbeaten 30, to ease Nelson through.
EAST LANCS looked, at 158-2 from 38 overs, to be in line to make a very big score, and although the RAWTENSTALL bowlers ensured that the home side were unable to take advantage of an excellent start, they couldn't do enough to prevent defeat.
Professional Johann Louw and Paul Turner, both in-form batsmen, added 93 for the third wicket, before Turner was out at 158. Louw's 65 took just 66 balls and included five fours and three sixes, while Turner's 54 was from 87 balls, scoring eight fours and one six.
Rawtenstall's innings started brightly, with 42 added without loss from nine overs, but rain reduced the innings to 46 overs with a revised target of 203.
At 107 for 2 the visitors looked to be on target, but the middle order failed in the run chase, and the score slumped to 126 for 7, before a brief flurry from Clough and Ali helped them to pick up two batting points.
Nas Iqbal's 5-53 was his best return for the season, and ensured that the Blackburn side remained in touch with the leaders.
COLNE also stayed in contention as they came away from CHURCH with an eight-run win.
It was Colne who lost all their batsmen, for a total of 217, but although Church only lost seven wickets they fell short on 209 off their 50 overs.
Greg Mail top scored with 90 but Church lost the momentum and slumped from 143-2 to 182-7. Nick Westwell made 33 not out towards the end but it wasn't enough against Colne's economical attack.
Ben Higgins was Colne's highest scorer with 75, passing 1,000 for the season, and David Swarbrick added 41.
Shaun Young cracked 109 for BACUP in their 223-6 against winless RISHTON.
The champions secured a victory on run rate as Rishton, despite 57 from Darren Eccles, could only make 113-9.
