SCHOOL REPORT: The school aims to provide a broad and balanced curriculum, with emphasis on the wider aspects of education including the arts, the environment and personal responsibility.

There is a clear expectation that everyone connected with the school be 100 per cent committed and work extremely hard. There is an obvious work ethic here, which reflects the heritage of the village, and North-East Lancashire in particular.

HISTORY LESSON: The school has trebled in size since 1986. There have been six separate extensions, and another one is planned for this year. This is a very significant growth when compared with other schools. We are fortunate the school is very well resourced, especially for ICT.

SOMETHING TO BRAG ABOUT: We enjoy a very good reputation for art and design, and we are often visited by staff from other schools. The school is also well known for local history work, and contributed to a Yorkshire TV training film for the National Curriculum. PE activities have been a major focus recently - the school takes part in football, swimming and athletics, and offers a range of after-school There are good links with local industry - especially paper making. The school designed a calendar for Waterside paper mill which went worldwide.

STAR PUPILS: We like to think that we offer all our pupils the ability to become stars in their chosen fields.

WHAT ABOUT THE PARENTS?: Parental help is encouraged and welcomed in class, on trips and for fund raising including Christmas and summer fairs, quiz nights and performances.

WHAT WOULD YOU DO WITH A £100,000 WINDFALL?: It is a long list, but an all-weather pitch for school and community use would be welcomed, as would a pre-school unit. We would also like to erect a wind turbine or solar panels to produce clean, cheap energy. Alternatively, we would bank the cash and use the interest to support staffing costs.
