SO now we know why the Bury FC AGM was postponed at such short notice.
A possible buyer seems to have appeared on the horizon.
OK we have heard it all before. Twelve months ago "Mystery buyers" were emerging from all sides, only to disappear like mirages in the desert.
However, this time around, the club directors seem to be taking the current approach seriously. After all, an injection of cash to clear some of the club's outstanding debts -- oh yes, they still exist -- would be manna from heaven.
Bury FCs situation is roughly similar to that of many other Nationwide clubs, except that the Bury FC board has made a determined effort to get finances under control. Look at the situation of Oldham Athletic, a bigger club, which announced recently that it was on the brink of going out of business.
Bulletin asked the Supporters' Society chairman Jeremy Clegg what was the reaction to this talk of a new "mystery bidder".
Our attitude remains the same. We exist to help secure the financial stability of the club and to strengthening links with the town", he said.
In fact, he is more concerned about "inertia" than "mystery bidders". The inertia he is bothered about is the fear that many members will delay or forget altogether about renewing their subscriptions which come due at the end of this month.
All existing members were sent a renewal form. Those who have lost it can send a notice giving name, address and membership number together with the appropriate subscription (£10 adults, £5 juniors and seniors) to Forever Bury, PO 310, Bury BL9 6WA. Dead simple. Do it before you go on holiday.
