THIRTY-EIGHT people aged between 14 and 35 took the opportunity to have a free cardiac test in Darwen in a bid to detect potentially life-threatening abnormalities.
CRY, Cardiac Risk in the Young, held the event at the weekend in memory of Neil Wickers and David Staff, from Darwen and Hoddlesden, who died as a result of undiagnosed defects.
Echo technician David Oxborough screened the volunteers at Darwen Access Point in Duckworth Street.
The screening sessions would have cost £500 to fund privately.
But family fundraising has allowed them to be carried out free nationwide since 1995.
The mayor's charity fund contributed £500 to the mobile screening.
