IN reply to Lindsay Clarence (Letters, June 20), both Ozzy Osbourne and Mick Jagger have performed live with their respective bands and entertained music lovers both young and old throughout the last four decades.

They have been writing and performing their own songs since the Sixties, and have inspired millions of musicians worldwide.

Singers like Ronan Keating and Gareth Gates, however, do not appear to have achieved many of those goals yet.

Music is about expressing emotions, the same way that an author or film director does.

Anyone who takes band names or song lyrics too literally is probably missing the point.
