AN animal charity worried by an increase in cat shootings is again appealing to people to report those responsible.
Members of Leigh branch of the Cats Protection League are appalled by the number of pets being killed and injured by gunmen.
In the past month two family cats have died as a result of airgun incidents.
The latest was reported on Tuesday when a Tyldesley family's 16-years-old pet died as a result of being hit in the chest by an airgun slug.
Recently Hindsford cat lover Colin Meakin, of Powys Street, warned owners to be on their guard after his six-years-old ginger tom had to be put down after being shot at close range.
And these incidents follow other reports from the League who care for and rehouse unwanted and injured cats.
Chris Jones, of Hertford Drive, Tyldesley, said: "My barred cat, Penny, died at a Tyldesley vets this week after being shot in the chest by a moron with an air rifle.
"Have the people who keep doing these things no conscience, and what are the police doing to stop these incidents?
"Already there have been other reports of damage from air rifles on the Shakerley estate. How long is it going to be before a child gets hit or worse?"
A League spokesman said: "It's disgusting, it's happening more and more. Someone must see what is going on."
