SOUTH African striker George Koumantarakis has put pen to paper on a one year contract with Preston North End.
The 6ft 4ins attacker has been on loan at Deepdale from FC Basle since January and was offered a contract at the end of the season but wanted more time to think about it.
North End set Koumantarakis a deadline of the end of this month to make up his mind, and North End are now saying that they have all but got their man.
Chairman Derek Shaw said: "George and his advisor have told Craig Brown that he will be signing for another year on his return from his holiday."
Koumantarakis is currently in his native South Africa, but is set to return before the players fitness tests next week.
Koumantarakis came to North End from the Swiss champions during the winter transfer window, and has played Champions League football.
Despite being born in Greece, family connections to South Africa mean he has been able to collect 10 caps for the Boks, including three World Cup appearances.
