UNIVERSITY lecturer Glyn Heath pedalled a gruelling 520 miles from Salford . . . to Salford.
But the 42-year-old Bury cyclist does not need to brush up on his map reading skills. Instead, he travelled to several locations in the UK, each of which bore the Salford name.
But this week, Glyn is enjoying overseas travel, leading students and colleagues on a field trip to Russia and Finland. And his bike remains firmly at home in Walmersley.
Glyn, a former Bury Labour councillor, lectures in surgical appliances at Salford University. He undertook the four-day sponsored bike ride to raise money towards the overall cost of the annual field trip.
"I left the university and cycled to Salford in Warwickshire and then on to Salford in Oxfordshire," he explained. "After that, it was on to a place called Salfords, with a final 's', and finally to Salford in Bedfordshire. I then cycled all the way back to Salford in Greater Manchester."
Glyn spent the evenings under canvas to enjoy the great outdoors. "I'm a keen cyclist and used to do quite a bit of commuting on my bike to and from work."
He added: "The sponsored bike ride was to raise money towards the cost of the field trip for 12 students and two members of staff."
At this stage, he does not know how much cash was generated. But it could be as much as £2,000.
