REGARDING Mrs M Fielding's remarks about the removal of rubbish (Letters, June 17), the rear of my house was a real eyesore, with old, run-down terraced houses. These were eventually demolished and now we have lovely new houses with lawns and trees and occupants who take pride in them and care about the environment.
But on our side of the fence that surrounds their property, it is a different kettle of fish, with dog dirt, empty cans, bottles, crisp bags and other kinds of litter, plus cars parked in the back-lane.
We have been in touch with the cleansing department for months now, but despite visits by officials and phone calls to and from a councillor, nothing has been done.
The reason offered by one visitor was lack of funds. This from a council that is paying £240,000 to deposit litter disguised as modern art.
The front pavement, too, is a disgrace, especially since the opening last May of yet another off-licence, and all day long (from 11am to 10pm), there is, apart from the litter, the slamming of car doors, the revving of engines and the blaring of car radios.
Like Mrs Fielding, who can we turn to in order to get some justice?
MAVIS BURNS (Mrs), Livesey Branch Road, Blackburn.
