NEW constituency boundaries for the next General Election have been announced by the Government.

The only East Lancashire constituency to have anything more than minor changes carried out to its boundaries is Ribble Valley.

Currently, it is made up of the borough of Ribble Valley along with several wards from the North of Preston.

Following the Boundary Commission's shake-up, which includes creating a new constituency around Preston and the Fylde Coast, Ribble Valley loses the parts of Preston it once had included.

Instead, it gets 10 of the wards which lie within South Ribble, including Bamber Bridge East, Bamber Bridge North, Bamber Bridge West, Charnock, Coupe Green and Gregson Lane, Lostock Hall, Middleforth, Samlesbury and Walton, Tardy Gate and Walton-le-Dale.

The South Ribble constituency gains two wards from Chorley and four wards in West Lancashire.

Chorley, home to Labour MP Lindsay Hoyle, will include 18 of the 20 Chorley wards.

A spokesman for the Boundary Commission said: "The creation of a new seat inevitably involves disruption and major change.

"Apart from minor changes to realign constituency boundaries with the new ward boundaries, the existing seats of Blackburn, Burnley, Hyndburn, Morecambe and Lunesdale, Pendle, Rossendale and Darwen and West Lancashire remain unchanged.

"The changes are necessary to cope with population shifts."
