SEVEN Leigh primary schools are trailblazing the country in Work Related Learning.
The Twelve Apostles, Sacred Heart, Westleigh Methodist, Newton Westpark, St Thomas, St Paul's and St Gabriel's are amongst Britain's first primaries to be awarded the Excellence in Work Related Learning Award from the Centre for Education and Industry based at the University of Warwick.
The schools used the work and experiences with Leigh Education Action Zone and Wigan Education Business Partnership in their assessments by the university.
Children spoke to university staff about their visits to local companies including Leigh Centurions and Hope Carr Barn.
They also showed the assessors work they had completed on understanding about jobs that they may consider in the future and the skills they would need for these occupations.
Leigh EAZ project director Alan Dutton said: "The successful partnership between has been the bedrock for this unique success."
