A WHITE transit van with blacked out windows could have been used as a getaway vehicle after a £10,000 robbery in Burnley, police have revealed.
Detectives are appealing for witnesses after a van was seen speeding off from Hillcrest Avenue shortly after the raid on a Securicor van at the Brunshaw Road Spar shop.
A car used in the raid, which police believe may have been stolen from the Warrington area, was dumped in Hillcrest Avenue and police say the white van may have been used as a transfer vehicle.
On Tuesday night at 9.20pm robbers wrestled with two security guards at the Spar shop in Brunshaw Road before making off with a cash box.
Detectives said the blue Ford Focus the two men were seen driving during the robbery was using number plates which were reported stolen.
Police are looking into the possibility the number plates were taken during a burglary in Warrington.
Det Sgt Dave Lord, of Burnley CID, said: "We have a witness who saw a white transit-style van with blacked out windows screeching off from Hillcrest Avenue at about the right time and we would appeal for anybody else who may have seen this vehicle, or the blue Ford Focus to get in touch."
Anyone with information about the robbery should contact Burnley Police on 01282 425001, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
