A FATHER and son from Radcliffe were seriously injured after their motorbike collided head-on with a second motorbike.

Neil Chadwick, aged 44 of Radcliffe, suffered multiple leg breaks and a hand injury. His 12-year-old son Daniel, a pillion passenger, suffered a broken leg and cuts.

Police said they were in a serious condition in hospital.

The collision occurred on the A675 Bolton Road in Abbey Village, Chorley at 12.50pm on Saturday

Police said Stephen Barber, aged 20 of Tyldesley -- riding a powerful Kawasaki motorbike -- overtook a Subaru Impreza on the crest of a hill.

A spokesman said the bike collided with Mr Chadwick's Suzuki and a Yamaha bike travelling in the opposite direction before a Ford Fiesta ploughed into the wreckage.

Mr Barber suffered a fractured leg and serious crush injuries and was taken to hospital where his condition was yesterday described as serious.

Yamaha rider Christopher Ogden, aged 20 of Walkden escaped with minor injuries. The road was closed for four hours.

A Lancashire Constabulary spokesman said it was the third serious accident on the road in three days.

He added: "All have been as a result of excessive speed."

Residents of Abbey Village called for action following the spate of crashes at the accident blackspot.

Villagers have said "enough is enough" after three separate incidents on the A675 trunk road from Blackburn to Bolton.

The speed limit in the village was reduced from 40mph to 30mph last year as part of road improvements prompted by accidents but concerned residents say it has had little effect because the limit is 60mph on either side.

The village has been earmarked as a potential speed camera site by Lancashire Road Safety Partnership but has yet to have one installed.

Evelyn Cooper, aged 61, said: "Speed is a terrible problem. We daren't let youngsters play on the road. "We want speed humps and cameras. Everyone in the village is complaining about this."

A 19-year-old motorcyclist was killed last night after his bike collided with the gates of Weaste Cemetery in Salford.

Police said the yellow Malaguti motorcycle was driven towards the open gates and collided with a metal bar which restricts vehicle access. The man -- who police say lived in the area -- was taken to Hope Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival at around 9.45pm.
